The technology “Nanofiltration” covers a range of membrane pore sizes i.e. cut-off value. The cut-off range generally varies between 0.001 – 0.002 µm or 100 – 1,000 Monocular Weight (MW).

NF technology applications normally involve concentration and volume reduction processes.

Polymeric membranes are commonly used for NF applications, where the membrane pore size allows monovalent salts to pass through the membrane. NF is today widely used for concentration and partial demineralisation of whey and UF permeate.

Nanofiltration can also be used in the processing of lactose reduced dairy products and in lye purification.
